We have a terrific Monday Video for you this morning: a clip of Phil Cunningham interviewing Scottish singer/songwriter Karine Polwart about the creative process of writing her songs, which are influenced by traditional folk ballads and the works of Robert Burns. Visit Karine's website to learn more about her gorgeous, gorgeous music...and then visit Phil's to learn more about his. (Phil and his brother -- the late, great Johnny Cunningham --were the founders of the band Silly Wizard, and he's created a lot of wonderful music in the years since.) You'll find another good video interview with Karine here (Part 1) and here (Part 2).
I fully admit that having just finished Charles de Lint's wonderful collection Moonlight and Vines that I am in a particularly sentimental mood and yet the sentiments I am about to share are no less true and real because of that:
I love visiting here. This site and the group of people it represents is so inspirational. In the few years that I have known the existence of this site (and the pre-blog site as well) my eyes have been opened to such remarkable literature and art and music.
You all do such a marvelous job in creating connection among the arts and that connection has translated itself into my own personal life as well. I no longer see the art and music and literature that I like as separate entities, they are all intertwined with the other aspects of my life and help me to create a unique and whole experience in life.
I thank you so much for that as I thank you for this post. I was moved by what little I heard of her music and what she had to say and I of course rushed over to listen to the other interviews and to check out her site. I see CD purchases in my near future.
What a wonderful way to start a Monday. Bless you.
