Laetitia Miéral is a French "paper artist" who specializes in creating fantastical beasts and characters out of fairy tales, Shakespeare plays, and Victorian children's books.
"Ever since I was a child," she says, "I have been drawing, painting, and creating the characters from my dreams and imagination. I grew up with the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, Lewis Carroll, Charles Perrault, and Madame d'Aulnoy. I work with paper, a never-ending source of inspiration for me. I create mobiles, grimoires, fairy paper jewelry, and puppets."
Miéral studied art history, and then made costumes and marionettes for a theatre company. She exhibits her paper sculptures in galleries in France and abroad, and occasionally teaches classes on paper arts to children and adults. To see more of her work, visit her website, and her blog. (Many thanks to Endicott reader Simon Chantal for bringing Miéral's art to our attention.)
